Why Blogs Are So Popular

Last time you looked at how blogs evolved, and why they are how they are . You now know why there is a culture of linking to one another – it didn’t come from nowhere.

Today blogs are everywhere. And it’s not just old-school stand-alone blogs anymore – you can have a blog on MySpace, blog on Facebook, tons of different blogging networks, there’s even micro-blogging now.

People today are so used to speaking their minds, that if there’s something they want to say, they’ll start a blog about it. Just three or four years ago nobody would have believed blogs would become so popular. So why does everyone love them?

Authors

Some time ago it used to be rather difficult to start a web-page. You needed to have enough technical skills. But since blogs appeared all you really need is the ability to fill out the sign-up form on one of the networks.

In fact, it’s so easy that people who wouldn’t have dreamt of publishing their writings are starting blogs on topics you wouldn’t imagine. It also practically ensures you being read – by other bloggers, if nothing else.

Readers

Is it easier to read a blog, rather than a regular web-site? Not really. So why do so many readers love blogs? Often because a blog typically promises a personal touch. With an ordinary web-site, you never know who or what is behind it. With a blog, you expect to have a face to the content (or at least a name).

Since a blog is personal and written by (real) people, readers assign higher value to things they read on blogs, than on other types of websites. The ability to leave your own comments and have a discussion right there and then also helps.

Search Engines

The reputation blogs have among writers and readers gives it a warmer welcome with search engines. Blogs are expected to have real content by real authors; they are expected to be updated rather freaquently.

Plus blogs link to one another – the more you are linked to, the more valuable your opinion on the topic. This is one of the reasons the PageRank system is what it is today.

People learned to trust blogs more than any other web-sites, so search engines followed suit and learned to trust blogs as well. This is why, all other things equal, a blog will have a higher rating in search results than a simple website.

These three factors have lead to how blogs are used today by internet marketers , and we’ll look at that soon.

I really appreciate that you keep coming back to my site, it's loyal people like you that make what I do worth it. If you have any questions feel free to email me at Tony [at] BeginWorkingOnline [dot] com. If you like what you read, and find it helpful, make sure to share it with a friend - they'll love you for it! Remember, this blog is not about me, it's about you - so participate in the discussion, let me and the other readers know what you think and how you're doing.
